Specialist menopause expertise
Experienced doctors with particular expertise in menopause and women’s health.
Evidence-based medicine
Clear, balanced advice based on current evidence—not trends or one-size-fits-all treatment.
More than HRT
Menopause can affect — and be affected by — wider health. We can consider cardiovascular, metabolic, bone, psychological, sexual and preventive health where relevant.
Time and continuity
Appointments give you time to explain what’s happening, understand your options and develop a plan that can be reviewed as your needs change.

Led by A Nationally Recognised Expert- Imogen Shaw
Supported by British Menopause Society GP- Caroline Cooper
Menopause can affect far more than periods and hot flushes. Changes in sleep, mood, concentration, weight, sexual wellbeing, joints, bladder symptoms and cardiovascular and bone health can all occur during perimenopause and menopause.
At Cambridge Private Doctors, we take a broader approach.
Our specialist menopause doctors provide personalised, evidence-based care for women throughout perimenopause, menopause and beyond. We can advise on HRT and non-hormonal treatments, while also considering your wider physical and emotional health.

Dr Imogen Shaw
Our menopause service is led by Dr. Imogen Shaw, one of the most experienced and respected practitioners in menopausal care in the East of England.

Dr Caroline Cooper
Dr. Caroline Cooper, formerly a GP, then working for the Cambridge sexual health service, now has postgraduate qualifications in menopause care.
Your menopause consultation
Menopause affects every woman differently. Your first consultation gives you time to discuss what has changed, what matters most to you and what you would like treatment to achieve.
We will consider your symptoms alongside your medical history, menstrual and reproductive history, current medication, contraception, family history and relevant lifestyle factors.
Where appropriate, we can discuss HRT, testosterone, non-hormonal treatments and other approaches to managing your symptoms.
Blood tests or other investigations are not routinely necessary to diagnose menopause in many women. Where investigations would genuinely help—for example to assess other possible causes of symptoms or aspects of your wider health—we can arrange these.
The aim is to leave you with a clear, personalised plan, rather than simply a prescription.
HRT tailored to you
Hormone replacement therapy can be highly effective for many symptoms of menopause, but there is no single HRT regimen that is right for everyone.
We will discuss the potential benefits and risks in the context of your own symptoms, medical history and preferences, and help you understand the different forms of oestrogen and progesterone available.
If you are already taking HRT but still experiencing symptoms or side effects, we can review your treatment and consider whether changes may help.
What about Testosterone?
For some women, loss of sexual desire can remain troublesome despite otherwise appropriate menopause treatment.
Following careful assessment, testosterone may be considered where clinically appropriate. We can discuss whether testosterone is likely to be suitable for you, the limitations of the available evidence, treatment options and the monitoring that may be required.
Testosterone is not a universal treatment for tiredness, low mood, weight gain or poor concentration, and our approach is to prescribe it selectively and safely rather than routinely.
What if I don't want—or can't take—HRT?
HRT is not the only approach to menopause care.
Some women prefer not to use hormones, while for others HRT may not be appropriate.
We can discuss evidence-based non-hormonal treatments and address the symptoms affecting you most, including sleep, psychological wellbeing, weight, vaginal and urinary symptoms and sexual health.
You don’t need to want HRT to book a menopause consultation.
Menopause consultation fees
We believe in being clear about the cost of your care from the outset.
Initial menopause consultation

Video consultation — £250
Your initial appointment provides time to discuss your symptoms, medical history, treatment options and wider health, and to agree a personalised plan.
Follow-up menopause consultation
Video consultation — £135
Follow-up appointments can be used to review your response to treatment, discuss results, address side effects and adjust your treatment where appropriate.

Your wider health matters too
While menopause is a key focus, we recognise that this life phase often overlaps with other health concerns. Our team is well-equipped to address a wide range of issues, including:
Heart health — blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, family history and other cardiovascular risk factors.
Bone health — osteoporosis risk, exercise, nutrition and whether further investigation is appropriate.
Metabolic health — weight changes, blood glucose, cholesterol and other relevant risk factors.
Mental wellbeing — mood, anxiety, sleep, concentration and the interaction between menopause and psychological health.
Pelvic and sexual health — vaginal symptoms, painful sex, bladder problems, recurrent urinary symptoms and pelvic-floor concerns.
Contraception
Complex menopause care
When menopause care isn’t straightforward
Some women come to us after several treatments, persistent symptoms or side effects, or because another medical condition makes treatment decisions more complicated.
Our menopause doctors can review the wider picture, including your symptoms, previous treatment, medical history and relevant investigations, and help establish a sensible way forward.
If another specialist is better placed to help, we can coordinate an appropriate referral.
Continuity matters
Menopause treatment often needs adjustment over time. Follow-up appointments allow us to review your response, address side effects or new symptoms and make changes where necessary.
Where possible, we encourage continuity with a doctor who understands your history, treatment and priorities.
As your needs change, your care can change with you.
