- Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have no symptoms initially, but if diagnosed early can be easily treated before they progress.
- We can offer screening and treatment for a wide range of STIs, and more importantly advice on how to prevent them in the future.
- Screening for HIV can be done on a simple blood test, and there are now effective treatments available which can prevent it progressing to AIDS or being passed on to partners. In addition we offer pre-exposure prophylaxis (PREP) for those who are at higher risk of acquiring HIV.
Testing
- Genital infections can often be tested on urine samples for men, and self taken vaginal swabs for women.
- If you have any concerns about lumps bumps or skin changes in the genital area we can check that out for you too.
- More tests are not always better, and are often no replacement for a consultation with an experienced sexual health doctor who will give you personalised advice based on your own individual circumstances
What types of tests can I have and how much does this cost?
- This depends on your symptoms and risk factors.
- For patients with no symptoms we offer testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrheoa as well as HIV, Hepatitis B and C and Syphilis.
- For patients with symptoms extra tests can be added with additional costs.

Can I do a postal self check test?
Yes this is possible, but only if you have no symptoms, please book a 20 minute telephone appointment and we will arrange this for you.
