Dr Mari Flowerdew has a particular interest in Women’s Health, contraceptive procedures (Coils and Implants), Paediatrics and Cardiovascular disease. She is experienced in all aspects of General Practice and health promotion, having qualified from the University of Oxford Clinical School in 2000.
Mari’s career focus has been the provision of high-quality family medicine. She has 16 years of experience as a partner in a local South Cambridgeshire Practice where she undertook leadership roles. She developed a particular interest in Women’s Health, providing contraceptive procedures (Coils and Implants) from 2006 onwards, with further interests in Paediatrics, Cardiology and Dermatology.
She enjoys all aspects of General Practice and takes pride in understanding physical and mental health concerns.
After receiving an Oxford University Examiners’ letter of commendation for clinical finals in Medicine and Surgery and ‘One of the highest marks we have ever awarded’ for Obstetrics and Gynaecology clinical finals, Mari undertook GP training in Nottingham. Speciality rotations included General Medicine and Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Dermatology and Skin Surgery.
Mari achieved Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners with Distinction in 2004.
Subsequent postgraduate qualifications include diplomas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare, Child Health, and the AHEA teaching qualification. Mari is a member of the Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology and is an examiner for Cambridge University Medical School Clinical Final examinations.
Mari’s knowledge of Cardiology has been advanced by sharing a home with an Interventional Cardiology Consultant where emergency heart call-outs at all hours of day and night are the norm. Mari is regularly updated on new cardiological investigations and procedures to help patients who have heart concerns.
Mari has particular expertise in:
- Women’s health
- Fitting Coils for Contraception or Menopause, including emergency contraception
- Inserting Contraceptive Implants
- Cardiovascular disease: prevention and management; assessing risk for heart attacks and strokes as well as general Cardiology and Peripheral Vascular Disease.
Mari enjoys the Great Outdoors, attending music festivals is a campervan enthusiast. She has a passion for creative arts, including making a 5 tier Wedding Cake!
Mari’s approach is to offer personalised care in the context of evidence-based medicine in order to achieve the best outcomes for her patients.
