The Menopausal Transition can be a Difficult Stage.
Whilst facing the challenges involved in combining work, looking after elderly parents and grandchildren, or coping with the loss of children leaving home, many women will not be feeling good themselves.
Women often start to notice menopausal symptoms, such as hot flushes & night sweats, before their last menstrual period. Some women will also experience other symptoms such as tiredness, palpitations, low mood, headaches, irritability, lethargy, loss of libido and aching joints, which may be related to their changing hormone levels, or due to concurrent life events.
This is also a time of life when women start worrying about their decline in health and risk of developing other serious diseases such as heart disease and cancers.
A health check at around 50 years is an excellent opportunity to look at a woman’s personal risk factors and provide balanced information about appropriate lifestyle changes and treatments available to them.
This can empower women in making informed choices regarding their own health and wellbeing, and help to construct a personal health plan for the menopause and beyond.
